One more time: I have a 1973 Johnson 65hp 3 cyl with an aftermarket tilt trim unit. I need new trim/ tilt cyl seals. tried boaters supply and boat parts and they want to sell the complete unit for 540.00 which includes pump brackets and lines and wiring. All I need is the piston seals in the cylinders any idea where i can get some seals. Thanks again guys.
by the way got the motor back together but havent put it on yet I want to get the trim fixed first.
Bobby

Re: Tilt/ Trim Seals

Rick
I am not real sure. The pump is mounted on the outside to the right of the motor with twin cyls. the left side cyl.has a limit switch which i assume is the tilt cyl. I think this would make the right cyl a trim cyl. Any Ideas on how to tell.
thanks

Sounds like you might have the old Calco trim? If so, parts are nill to none.

maybe these guys would know if it would work, but have you thought of puting a newer used omc bracket with t/t on your motor instead of using after market? might be cheaper.

Re: Tilt/ Trim Seals

Just a cou;e of suggestions to try:
1- See if you can locate a hydraulic jack repair shop or person in your area (these would be the guys who service autoshop equipment), and see if he might have some seals that would work. You'd probably have to take it to them, so they can measure it up, but I gotta believe someone makes seals that will work... 2- Here in the Phoenix area, we also have a couple of "bearing" shops, who specialize in bearings & seals, primarily for the agricultural needs of the farmers in this area, but they are pretty good at coming up with the odd-ball stuff I need for everything from my dirt bike to my lawn mower... 3- Lastly, you might see if there are any hydraulics shops, who service industrial or agricultrual equipment in your area. Good Luck...

ob1jeeper has the right idea as to who may be able to help you with your seals and the repair. Most trim cylinders use o-ring seals.

Jeeper & RICKRICK got it right. I doubt if anything in those cylinders is proprietary. Somebody's gottum on the shelf.

c/6

Hooty

Aitotech... I've never had one of these trim cylinder thingy's open... But if, as RICKRICK says, most use o-rings for sealing, then repairing this thing is a no-brainer... Even your local discount Autoparts store (like Checker or AutoZone) should have o-rings that would fit... probably even find some at your local Hardware store... Good luck - Obiwan

It does have o-rings now but the originals were double lip seals. O-rings wont hold the fluid under pressure. tried that. will try to find them at the hydraulic jack place or farm supply.
