Hi
rewire continues as previous topic my wiring diagram did not give conections for powerpack. alcon kindly mailed me diagram of connections. all colours matched both diagram. but i seem to have an extra component not shown on mine or alcon's diagram. i spoke to my local marine engine guy and described the component to him and he reply o yes the 'dogs b*llocks' sorry i replied they look like 'dogs b*llocks' with 3 wires coming from them. yes i suppose they do i replied what is it and what does it do. dont know he said we looked though all of his books but cannot find out anything about it CAN ANY BODY HELP do i need it. I think it might be a shift diode what ever that is but cannot see why i would need it or why it is there
regards
mark

CrazyBear..... What is the model number of that engine. If that item you're speaking of is a brown colored epoxy type electronic piece of material with three wires leading from it, it doesn't belong on a 1973 50hp Evinrude. Describe that item a little more thoroughly and get the model number to us.

Re: 50hp Evinrude 1973 electric component ID

CrazyBear..... I searched back through your previous posts and found that you're using as hydro electric shift engine with a later model mechanical shift lower unit. The item you're refering to is indeed a shift diode.

If you had a hydro electric shift lower unit, that item would be needed to keep the unit in neutral until the engine quit running.

However, since you have changed over to a mechanical shift, it is not needed and you may discard it.

CrazyBear..... Yes, remove the diode from the circuit but don't throw it away. Diodes come in handy once in awhile. Then connect the other items/wires as per the diagram you have.
