fuel pump

I have an old (c 1970) 4 HP Evinrude. When I trialled it I had to keep pumping the Squeeze section of the tubing leading from the tank. The dealer said he would fit a new fuel pump but just six months later I have the same problem.

Could the fuel pump diaphragm be gone again? So soon?

How do I remove the fuel pump?

Re: fuel pump

G'Day, Don.

First, you need a manual. It will give you clear instructions, with diagrams, on servicing your fuel system.

It is not at all a sure thing that your fuel pump has failed, though it is a good suspect.

Other possibilities are restricted tank vent, tank pickup, air leaks in lines, restricted lines or debris of some kind in the fuel pump or carb.

Good luck. :)

Re: fuel pump

Thank you for that information. I have found a problem with the tank venting so I will give that a try before doing anything else.

Cheers
Don

Re: fuel pump

It may require a new hose assy. They sometimes leak at the motor end and it allows the fuel pump to suck air rather than gas from the tank. It wouldn't have to leak gas for this to be.
