91 90 HP Johnson with the vro removed. Since I am premixing now, I would like to disconnect the wires and remove the oil reservoir tank. I have searched the archives and found several good posts but I could not find one that applied directly. I have traced the wires from the tank to what I think is the trim switch indicator. Is this where it is connected on this motor? Do I disconnect it at this location? Thanks in advance.

The VRO2 tank has 2 wires, one to port side of block which is ground, the other to tan wire, on port side of engine. The pump has a harness comming out of the end of the pump, follow this harness to connector, disconnect. Wires and connectors should be protected from shorting or corrosion.

Clanton,

Thanks. You made it easy. Question though. I keep reading posts about alarms. Is there something I need to do to keep an alarm from sounding now that I have also disconnected the tank wiring?

jeepers,You'll want to locate the thermo sensor wire which should be tan in color and with the key in the on position ground it to engine metal and insure that the overheat alarm is still working. After disconnecting the VRO harness and the oil reservoir wires those alarms are removed from the circuit and will not alarm.

Jeepers, this is the way I did it:
Find the wiring harness that comes off the back of the VRO. Depending on the age of the pump it may have three or four wires, black, grey, tan and if it's a 4-wire, purple. The wires run to a round black rubber plug about 2" long & 3/4" in diameter. remove the spring-clip from it and un-plug it (it WILL be left disconnected or you will get false alarm signals). Next, find the 2 wires that run from the oil tank to the motor. Find the connectors and unplug them, pull the wires out of the cowl and remove the oil tank from the boat. Remember to premix at 50:1 and you're done.

BTW - It's very important to inspect the capped oil fitting periodically. If the cap should fall off, it will allow contaminants to get into the pump and it will gum up and fail. Good Luck,

This engine should have self test for alarm, when you turn key on, horn should beep one time. This test only for horn.
