1972 Evinrude 9.5hp, Model 9222:

Right now my new (to me) motor is in good shape. Nothing is broke and nothing needs fixing, everything works like it should.

I intend to run this motor forever - it should outlast me - and since it's 30 years old now and not likely to get any newer with age I would like some suggestions from those of you who have experience with the OMC 9.5 motors regarding what spare parts I should accumulate and have on hand for the day when I want to go fishing but the motor doesn't.

I have a service manual and a parts catalog.

Thanks,

Crappie,
I don't think you need much in the way of spare parts, more consumables.
I keep the following for my motors:
Set of spark plugs,
Gear oil
Can of fogging oil
Grease gun with marine grease
Fuel filter (if it has one)
Lower unit vent and drain washers
New rope for my pull start motor.

I schedule to replace the spark plugs every spring and the water pump every three years even if it looks good.
I also check the fuel lines at the beginning of the season and have had to change only once on a 10 year old motor.

Afternoon Crappie Cruncher,

I've got one of these in the shed waitin' fer spring and the thaw.

Havin' jus been through her, this is wut I would consider keepin' 'round.

Carb Kit (float may/will eventually saturate and will no longer ,...er,..uh,.. FLOAT, gaskets may deteriorate and start to leak)

Coils (available at Napa for about $25 a pair) Have been known to deteriorate (encapsulant cracks leading to arking & sparking to BAD places).

Maybe spare sets of points & condensors

And of course, the obligitory Impeller for the water pump.

Don't know how or where you will run her BUT it might not hurt to have a spare prop nut on-hand.

Just my opinion but I think these are dandy tough ol' motors and wouldn't be surprised if it does outlast you.

Good Luck
HAVE FUN!

crappie cruncher
I have a spare prop, prop nut, points plugs, shear pins, fuel filter, fuel line and fittings and the tools need to do the work with me when I go out! I go where no one goes but the Rangers when we don’t come in for a few days.
Richard
