Before I start down the wrong path I wanted to find out if anyone here knows that this will or will not work.

I have a 1962 Evinrude 75HP Selectric (model 50931) with a known bad powerhead and a 1967 Johnson 60HP manual shift (model VXL-13A) with a powerhead that purrs but with a non shifting LU and a destroyed skeg. Both motors look identical from the exhause housing down to the lower unit (with the manual shift Johnson having a slightly smaller bullet). They both have the same shaft length. I want to use the complete Evinrude with the Johnson powerhead.

Is it possible to use the Johnny powerhead on the 'Rude? Does my Johnson powerhead have an alternator required for power to the selectric LU?

Any help from "the experts" would be greatly appreciated.

I checked the potential evinrude lower unit donor motor. The shifting coils show resistance of 5 ohms...so they are good!

I am still concerned the 60HP powerhead may not mate up.

All the information I can find suggests that both engines have a 20-AMP alternator...SO I guess I've answered one of my questions.

Hi outon
I took a few miniutes and did a little research. I will say there is about a 90% chance it will work. Thats as far as I can go. It would take me hours with the parts books to figure it 100% sure. I have never attempted a swap with these models personaly. I have how ever, done others. Sometimes you get right down to the wire on this stuff and all of a sudden one little part won't swap. That's the chance you take. Think of it like this, what do you have to loose. All you were going to do is waste time watching the Osborns anyway. Well good luck and if I can help just ask.

Alcan...

Thank you TONS. It's still really cold here in Maine...So I have pleanty of time to tinker in the garage before if will be warm enough to test run this contraption.

I felt it would probably work...just wanted a second "maybe, probably". I aquired both motors for under 75 bucks so it's worth it to try.

I'd be watching osbourns...if the mrs. wasn't always watching Joe millionaire, real world and all those other "reality shows".

Thanks again!

OK..snag #1:
The evinrudes wiring harness has 2 sets of wires going to the alternator.

the Johnson has 1 set. Can anyone explain this?
I may try to fit the evinrude alternator to the johnson, if it will work.
My wiring diagrams don't show where exactly these wires go.
Any thoughts on the extra wires??

Hi outon
Whats wrong with the L/U on the johnson? Might be easier just to repair it.

Won't shift into forward or reverse. Shift lever won't move at all. Skeg is destroyed. Control box is trashed.

Evinrude...control box in great shape...Lower Unit in good shape...housing with cov plate has a hole...using this identical housing off of johnson. Using evinrude stator flywheel...for higher amperage alternator.
