Hey guys , anyone have any experience w/ one of these ? Had one given to me along w/a '58-'59 Crownline boat . It's one of the coolest looking motors that I've seen since I've gotten into this "hobby" . It's all there and seems to be in good shape . I've ordered a tune-up kit, impeller, carb kit, fuel pump kit and a lower unit seal kit .Soaked the cyls down w/P.B. Lube and will try to turn it over in a day or so . I appreciate any input . Jeff I promise dear , NO MORE BOATS !!!

Hi JHM.
The first outboard I ever rebuilt was an old Starflite 75. Me and my dad got it as a basket case and went to work on it. Gave us many hours of fun and fishing. On the down side, they do love gas and lots of it. I would suggest that if ya don't have a service manual for the engine, try and get one. The old monster V4's can get finicky. Also make sure your battery is always up and charged. Don't know if yours is equipped for charging or not. Sounds like you have a plan before running the old girl. Let us know how she goes. Good Luck. :D :D

Yep, what Jim said. Good motor, plenty of power, plenty of gas, plenty of fun.

The best attribute of these ol' motors is:
With a meter, a maual and some common sence, you can fix 'em withOUT plugging them into a computer.
AND,... plent-O-parts to be found for the ol' OMC's

Compression?
Fuel?
Spark?

Bingo! She Goes!

I LOVE the ol'motors, I've got a '55, '66 and one of "them new-fangled" '85's.

Keep us appraised of your progress.

Good Luck
HAVE FUN!

Hi Jeff.

The relay box your talking about contains the starter solenoid and if the engine is equipped with charging, it will also have the voltage regulator. It will look like the old regulators on old auto's. The big black box type regulator. The box is also where all the wiring from the ignition switch to the motor meet. Check the box and make sure all connections are clean and not corroded. The boxes had a tendency for corrosion. Mount the box in a place that will keep as much water off it as possible. Keep us posted.

Well....got a brain cramp on that one. I'll give it a check tomorrow at the shop and let ya know. But just off the top of the head, probably something different like electric shift or something like that.
