I'm trying to find the year and hp of this motor, serial #J47854. It appears to be a 2hp, looks kinda like an old seagull engine. I believe its from the 40's. On top of engine is Johnson Motor Company, South Bend, Ind, US. with serial #.
Thanks

Re: Old Johnson Motor

We need a model number something like A or BN,
A25 etc. If its truly a 2 it is pretty early
as early as 22-23.

Hi Dave
Can you take a closer look at the model #. The closest I can find might be J-75 this would be a 1935 1.4hp. Also maybe a JW-15 a 1959 3hp.

Where do you find the model number/serial number on the powerhead. Mine has been painted and I don't know where to look.

cvlngineer

Try using some paint remover on the welsh plug and see if it exposes some numbers.Scratching it off may distort the numbers.
