I removed the powerhead from the housing because it wasn't peeing from the pee hole and was getting very hot and I tried all the recommended cures too no avail ie: new water pump, back flush through the pee hole and a garden hose into the copper tube. I found that the grommet at the end of the copper tube was obstructing the flow. While I have this disassembled is there anything else I should look at? Thank you

You will definately need a new gasket for that( I think it is called a baffle? or something like that), also just for the heck of it, you might clean all the carbon build up on that under side off real good.

Dude,

I think you found your problem with the swelled grommet.

You DO need that thermostat for proper engine operation.
