Ski locker always wet?

The ski locker in my boat doesn't seem to dry out very well. The bottom and walls are marine carpet. There is a drain hole at the rear end of the locker, but the carpet stays pretty wet all the time. Are most ski lockers carpet? Any thoughts on what I can do to keep it dryer...replace the carpet with something else?

thanks
Chris

carpet is slow to dry and a bad choice for a ski
locker IMO. what's under carpet? is it glassed or
bare wood? if glassed I would just pull carpet
and leave it.

How about putting in some vents.
A hole saw & the right size vent/grommet available in marine stores should look nice.
Be sure to keep the lid open when moored if possible.

I assume the top has holes or slots in it to allow air in? Ours came just bare fibreglass and the ski's would bounce around so we threw in a piece of a carpet runner, if it gets too wet we can just pull it out to dry.

The ski locker lid had the long slots in it. I believe the bottom is fiberglass. The drain hole is just a half circle on the end of the panel. I think I may look at removing the carpet and putting a rubber pad down to protect the skis or maybe something like that truck bed liner stuff. Do you guys think that work?

Chris

Prop the door open some, after boating so air can get in. Make sure the drain is clear to the bilge so the water can drain to the back, and park the boat on a incline to aid the water flowing to the stern.
My Larson has little storage compartments in the floor, If I don't prop them open, they will sweat inside.

Chris,

Mine is all fiberglass, but added black vynel runner to help cushion. I just laid it into the locker. I had it slide down and cover the drain hole, and pool a small amount of water. Probably a couple dabs of adheasive will hold it, and still be able to remove it, if need be. If you are talking rubber bedliner, that will work. I use that on my floor in my 14' alum fishing boat. I wouldn't use any of spray on/paint on, too permenent.

PS: I always take the ski locker cover off, and turn it 90 degrees, and set it over the hole, when boat is not being used. I also pull front bow cussions and leave the engine cover open a tad. Air circulation, is a good thing.
