why does the alarm on the control box keep going off.when you crank it up about 2 to 3 minutes it will go off. the motor did have a vro system but was taking off last year by a dealership. I pull both thermostats out and disconaked both sencers and the alarm will still go off.with the two thermostats in and the motor at idle i shot the heads with a temp gun and the temp was running around 140 to 145. what should i do next.

Keith.... I assume that the alarm you speak of is a steady constant beep (overheating). If that engine's running over 140° with no thermostats, the waterpump is failing (or has failed), or the water passageways are clogged, or the water deflectors that are located between the top and bottom cyl... and also between the bottom cyl and the block have swelled and are causing a water restriction.

It is mandatory that engine has thermostats installed, otherwise the pistons will score along with the cylinder walls.

I strongly recommend that you drop the lower unit, dismantle and inspect the water pump, and replace the thermostats and water bypass valves.

If the engine still overheats after having a new water pump installed (if one is needed), then I suggest that you remove the cylinder heads to inspect the water deflectors.

Joe the thermostats was in at the time when the temp was at 140 to 145.after i pulled the thermostats out the temp on the heads was cold to the touch. do you think i still need to put a water pump in because i have good water flow out the back of the motor. the two sencers at the heads that goes to the alarm was disconaked and the horn still will go off. could the alarm be bad or the key switchbe bad.
