Re: Motor starts hard/ won't shut off
Sanchet...
The long cranking time is REALLY draining your battery, not to mention what it is doing to your starter... Sounds like the primer is not enrichening it during cranking... try turning the key to the ignition "on" position, then pushing in, and holding the key in for approx 5-10 seconds before cranking it over. That should give it a primer shot of fuel to get it going, with out the LONG crank times. If that doesn't fix it, get it looked at befor you end up adding a $500 starter to your parts needing replacement list...

Typically the reason one continues to run on, after being shut down is that it has developed hot spots in the cylinder that are acting like spark (or in this case glow) plugs. This is typically caused by running a bit too lean, but can also be caused by too sharp of edges in the ports, wrong head gaskets over-hanging into the cylinders, or any small piece of metallic material that could get hot enough to "glow" and cause ignition...

I'd start by re-building the carbs (in case they MAY have crud in them, causing some leanness, which for two-strokes is NOT a good thing...), then have the carb sync checked.

I'm sure there are other things, but that's where I'd start looking...

One final thought, BOTH issues might... a slim chance, but might... be caused by a faulty ign switch...

Good Luck, Obiwan...
