3 coils in a 2 cyl???? Some esplainin please

got a '74 Evinrude, 25 horse Sportster Electric.<br /><br />No fire, removed fly/mag and what the heck? another coil? there alreadyone by each cyl....... what gives...have three antique outboards... two Mercs and one Johnson they are not set up like this.. any help, is this what they call a "lighting coil"? thanks <br /><br />Richard :confused:

Thanks for the speedy reply Lcm-8. USN MRFN here Honorably discharged many moons ago... so this being the charge coil, does that mean it charges batteries, or it charges the actual coils?

It charges the 2 ignition coils. I'm not sure about yours but thhere should be 2 of them one for each ignition coil. The leads go to your power pack then out to the ignition coils.

mine has location for two, but only one has ever been present... all paint accounted for in second location... can i ask more questions... and have you reply to my home email would be much faster....?<br /><br />Richard
