I have a 1996 Johnson 112 special. IM removing the powerhead and I need to know if the exhaust comes out with the powerhead. Do the exhaust covers and that bubble cover have to be separated for the powerhead to come out and how about the thermostat housing, Does that come out with the powerhead?? I removed all the bolts that the manual said but it seems to be attached. I tried lifting it with one other person but we couldn’t break it loose from the gasket. IM going to try with a hoist tonight but I want to be sure everything is unbolted correctly.

THANKS

Did you remove the nut holding the shift rod? It is under the bottom carb.

Re: PowerHead Removel

I removed a nut and a bolt next to each other on both sides in the front under the plastic cover on the lower unit along with the six other bolts under there.

IM not aware of a single nut anywhere else. But I will look for that.

does the exhaust plates and thermostat housing come out with the powerhead?

Re: PowerHead Removel

There have been several excellent discussions on difficult powerehead removals recently. Do a search for stuck powerhead on this forum for the last 30 days.

Although it isn't essential, you might go ahead and remove the lower unit. That way you'll know if the driveshaft is stuck in the powerhead crank. It is also easier to remount the powerhead with the lower unit off.
