76 135 johnston wont start unless i prime it ??

i have a 135 johnson i am just trying to set it up i put new piston in it and after piston was installed motor wont start without spraying gas in carbs once i do that it restarts on muffs good...i think carbs need cleaned again <br />any help would be big help

If you think they need cleaned - they do!<br /><br />Make sure your choke butterflies are closing completely. Not almost - completely.<br /><br />Good luck!

I have a 75' 135 and rebuilt it last summer and it sat for a long time with 2 bad pistons, it wouldn't start well either until i cleaned the carbs. take them off, its easy and use an air compressor to blow everything out. hey quick question, what size prop you runnin on it?

supergenius i will find out about prop when i look at boat sat....what years is your 135 and how much did you spend fixing you motor and did you bore cly

its a 75 i believe and its a 135 V4. I bought it and a boat (73 checkmate mx-15) and trailor for 700 bucks a year ago. Turns out all it had wrong with it was 2 pistons had low or no compression so i bought 2 wiseco factory replacement pistons(160 bux), i inspected and mic'd the cyl walls and everything was good so i bought a gasket kit(75 bux) and rebuilt the motor and inspected the rest of it while it was apart. I'm asking about your prop because I can't determine what pitch prop I have (no numbers) and my boat at WOT will only got about 40-45mph and the tach reads 4K rpm. The manual says that the RPM's should be betweeen 4500-5500 at full speed. Thanks your your info.
