I would think the boat is worth more then the motor. Does it have a plate with max. hp.? If the motor is over that rating I personnaly would find a motor within those specs., the lighter the better. Wood boats are jewels. My opinion.

If the engine is running great - keep it - just keep a light foot on the throttle.

Hi flote....if you believe that there is a safety factor here, ie...to much motor, to little boat, by all means get a smaller more managable motor. Never put your safety at risk on the water. Perhaps a motor of 40hp would suffice....220lbs ain't a lot to push. Good Luck.

Flote, no question about it....... 3.4l Merc 300 hp on a 30" bracket... Order the large bennet trim tabs with the Trimdicators. Of course you will have to upgrade the steering a little.  ;)

flote the motors are selling on ebay anywhere form $100-$300 depending on the condition. 40hp is on ebay not and it is going for about $150, but a 60hp bad condition is $86 and a 75hp 1962 model sold for $260 yesterday in good condition. Hope this helps
