I have a 1979 Johnson 115 which is very hard to steer under power, its fine when going slow. I've had this boat 1 year, the seller told me he had just replaced the cable. It is a rack and pinon Teleflex. What can I do before I take to a shop and unload my wallet?

Thx DT

6052,

I'm assuming it's harder to turn in one direction than the other?

If so, do this.

1. Look just above the prop. You will see a fin hanging down. That is the trim tab.

2. Loosen the recessed bolt on the middle of the plate that the tab protrudes from.

3. Turn the rear of the tab in the direction of the steering pull. For instance, if its hard to turn to the left-move the rear of the tab right.

Only move it slightly (about 1/4"), the first time. You will have to play with this to get it just right. You should be able to obtain nuetral steering.

Djohn, I checked that out, there is a numbered indicator to set trim? it's on # 2 now.I will adjust and see if that fixes it, thanks bro.
