I have a 1974 70hp Johnson. I am going to replace the seas in the lower unit. I found out my wheel puller I was going to use to pull the "shaft housing" out with will not fit. The hole is too small and won’t go over the prop shaft. Is there a special tool for this? Any info is appreciated,
Thank you,
Scott

If you are trying to replace the propshaft seals they make a tool for that. You dont have to pull the bearing carrier.

Even if you didnt want to buy the tool kit a dealer can change them for you in less than a 1/2 hour.

Good luck!

DHadley, I have zero luck finding said tool - do you know anywhere that still carrier them. I assume you're talking about a tube with a tapered & threaded end, that goes over the propshaft & threads past the ID of the propshaft seals. I have seen one for older (1690's) twins once & that's it. Love to find one for the V4s, if they work.

Thanks!

I am sure the dealer could do it. but it's $80 an hour with a 2 hour minimum. Not to mention the waite due to it being summer/spring and all of the othert boats waiting for there summer tune-ups. As ledge finder said i would be happy to use the "tool" if i could find one. Thanks for the input i will see if i can locate one.
