Com4tblyNumb,
I had the same problem on the same engine. Unplug the big red plug on the left side (standing at the rear of the motor) then jump the motor jumping the hot-wire on the bottom of the solenoid to the small top wire on the solenoid, If I remember right the small wire is yellow. Check for spark while you are doing this, if you have spark either the ignition switch is bad or the wiring is faulty between the big red plug and motor control box. If you still have no spark it might be the power pack. Let me know what you find out.

Wolf

Hey com...sure hope the trip back wasn't very long. Usually when an outboard quits just like that, the power pack is at fault. However, the power coil and timer base assembly should be checked as these could also cause the engine to quit. Keep us posted.

Com..
I'm not sure which wire is the hot one on the pack, I'd have to look at a schematic and my manual isn't here yet. The test I told you about, will check to see if the switch itself is bad, on mine the wire inside the control box came lose from the switch, but them back and it was a sparking fool. I do agree with OBJ, at least from what I've read and heard. The power pack is most likely the problem. Not to sure on how to test them just yet. Call your local mechanic and ask him, or maybe someone here could tell you how to test it. Every one I have talked to so far said to try someone that has a good one and install it on yours to see if it fixes it. Sorry I couldn't help out any more.
Wolf

If ya' got a peak readin volt meter, a good service manual with wiring diagrams and a six pack, they ain't hard to check out. If you have power going in, either from the power coil under the flywheel or on some of the older models 12V's DC from the battery, and a timing voltage from the timer base under the flywheel, and nothing coming out of the power pack to each coil, then the pack is probably bad. Have another cold one.... :D :D
