since Joe Reeves is on this post, Ill keep things right to the point, cause hes prolly one of the most knowlegeable JohnnyRude guru's on the planet, and I really want to know what he thinks about this ...

There have been a few posts about turning powerpack set ups into convertional ignition systems, what do you think of that idea? (sounds a lot cheaper than new powerpacks every few years!)

thanks!

If not the carbs, here's another idea. My 74 Evinrude used to do the same thing. Start, stop, start...I sheared the keyway on the top of the crankshaft.
As a test, pull the plug on the #1 cylinder, stick a screwdriver in the hole and turn the engine. When the piston pushes the screwdriver to it's furthest position outside of the engine, look at the timing marks on the top of the flywheel. They should be at TDC or within a few degrees ( ballpark ) If way off, you either are on the wrong cylinder, or you sheared the woodruff key. Pull the flywheel and replace.

well well well....i talked to my local dealer today to inquire what he would charge to replace the seals and inspect the lower unit....he asked a few questions and ultimatly told me the best advice he could give is to just keep changing the oil...said he would not work on it...lol anyhow bought a new fuel pump and installed it...attempted to start her but just my luck the lower carb is not sealed....float bowl is leaking....now i could have sworn i tightened those up ....but not too tight....going to pull it down again tomorrow....try this again... :D  ill let yall know what happens.......

That's good advise from your wrench. Ya see, that lower unit may not be leaking. It could be condensatation, and the l/u might not had been serviced in a long time. Like I said earlier, run it a while, watch it and see what happens.

c/6

Hooty

when i talked with my wrench the other day he told me a few things to check out and of course the first was to run a compression check....went like this cly 1 100 psi cyl 2 100 psi cyl 3 130 psi and cyl 4 110 psi.....cyl 3 worries me only because it makes the others more than 10 psi from each other....assuming that it should be ok i continued to check the next part fire...when i first posted this i had good spark...now i have no spark anywhere....so i chased the wires down with a multimeter and made sure i had juice from the sylinoid to the bus bar is fine showing 11.35 volts however the coil shows an external crack....with 2 corroded wires.....the rectifier has a corroded wire that is hot and is grounding out....again no spark on any spark plug....power is reaching the coill but no going from coil to distrubitor.....so i guess the question is this....to repair or to junk it....my wrench said to junk it....the pulse pack is 334.00....my personal opinion is to fix her....i only have 45.00 in the motor and only gave 300. for the boat trailer and motor....other question is if i am going to fix her....the wrench says a clipper circuit must be removed from the system before the new power pack will be under warranty...is this necessary?.....by the way i did get to check the timing sitting at 26 degrees.....ok so you guys get back to me on this thanks for the help

tommy
