I picked up a ragged 9.5 hp Johnson model 9R71R that I'm trying to fix up for a small boat for my son.

As I was putting the left, port lower cover assembly on and tighted the 2 bolts that hold the lower steering pivot shaft in place, the houseing cracked there. I thought that I was about through buying parts for this thing. I guess this is what I get for picking up such a piece of junk.

The part number from my parts catalog shows the part number to be 383512. The starboard side looks to be very thin where the top pivot point is also, so I may be needing it also. I think that models from about 1964 to around 1973 are interchangeable. Does anyone know for sure.

Does anyone have a junker laying around that has a lower cover assembly that I could get.

Thanks,
Gerald K4NHN
Cayce, SC
gcromer@usit.net

I've got this nos part in stock. OMC's suggested list price the last year it was made was $122.60.
Will sell for $50.00. Email me directly, if interested. linda@nu-z.net

Some of these engines are costlier than what they are worth 9.5. But seriously these are good solid engines much better than a dozen I could name and in their time (and much of it is now) the omc 9.5 comes out to be a great engine with parts still available. Ill bet there isnt a part yard that does not have at least 5 of these on their lots. They are very repairable and reliable my opinion is to fix it.
