the battery on my boat looses juice quicly and dies out. I was told that the engine has an alternator. I was also told that if the cables were crossed the diodes on the engine would burn out in a matter of seconds. I am a newbie to all of this, any advice or info will be helpful in trying to solve this problem.
P.S. I don't have a shop manual either any info on where i could get one of those will lso be helpful.

Vincent...you can get manuals right here on iboats, just click on manuals on top of page.
Really sounds like you have a power drain somewhere...you should have a magneto ignition and don't use battery for other than starting...check your battery and for a short. don't think an alternator cares which way you hook it up, it's ac...just a Thought

Vincent,
I have the exact same motor. If it is a 1962 Evinrude 75HP Starflite IV WITH Selectric Shift:
You have battery ignition with an 20 AMP alternator. That is why you have the large stator under the flywheel. Sorry, I don't know enough about how the circuits work to figure out the battery drain.
