I cannot figure this one out! I have a 98- 90hp Johnson that has perfect compression, plenty of fuel, and a good spark on all 4 cylinders but will not fire, period. No cough, no backfire nothing! It's driving me crazy, I have had all 4 plugs in and connected one lead to a 5th plug outside the cylinder, good spark. I have shot mixed fuel directly into the carb throat, no fire.<br />I have replaced the power pack, no fire. Where do I go from here? Help!!

If 90 degree engine, check flywheel key. IF 60 degree engine, check timing sensor.

Re: 90hp will not fire!

Thanks for your reply, that was one of the first things I checked, it's o.k. The troubling part about this is I get no fire even with fuel directly into the manifold, so I know it's not a timing issue, (sheared key)or such. The motor was hard to start the last couple of times it ran and then just would not start at all. Any other help you may suggest is more than welcome. Al

I need to add one more thing, I get a spark on each plug even with the kill switch disconnected, that doesn't seem right to me. If I had a short in the ignition wiring/switch wouldn't that stop the spark?

Please read our post Frustrated and Frazzled-Doc Johnson. We feel your pain and are in the same dry docked state right now. From what I have read in the manual and posts is to check your carbs and all lines leading from gas tank and carbs for crud and maybe have to clean carb. out totally. Can't help you more than that but are interested in what you figure out that works, maybe we will both get lucky and be in the water this year! Doc :)
