Greetings,

I just got a new boat with a Johnson 50. Is there any way to extract a little more power out of this engine?

Thanks
SoulWinner
If this is a 2 cylinder, 2 cycle, have dealer check to see if starter is rubbing VRO pulse hose, when the 20 hour service is done. The starter will rub a hole in the hose.
The motor is on a 17' Sun Dance, it is a lot like a Carolina Skiff. It has a factory prop, and turns 4500-4800 RPM at WOT. Break-in proceedure was followed to the letter. I was wondering if there was restrictor plate that could be removed or better prop for a little more power. I'm not looking for huge gains, just a bit quicker to plane out would be nice. Thanks
SoulWinner
You should contact the dealer for a better prop. Sounds like you could drop 3" in pitch to get your RPMs up. See if they have loaner props so you can determine the ideal pitch for your application.
Hey and thanks for the replies I talked to the dealer and he explained exactly what the problem is. Once the boat os on plane I have to pitch the motor up a little bit. I tried this and the boat continuies to lift with increasing RPMs. Once the boat starts to porpoise I trim the motor down until the porpoising stops. Doing this the motor spins to 5500 and goes about as fast as I want it to.
