Re: Pocket Cruisers

I am so sorry for hijacking the thread everyone ... its just that like I said I am new and didn't know where to begin...that is to say what category, how to post new topics, how to measure, 'a hulk id' number...?huh? anyway I still have no idea...
But my humblest apologies for bad forum etiquette and for all those who were offended by my question to an old post that caught my eye.

I will try elsewhere.
(Thanks all for warm welcomes)

Hey, redeye- take it easy. Nobody's offended. No harm, no foul. It's juist that 6-year-old threads really aren't relevant anymore. Good for searching out information, though.

When you log into the iboats forum and first enter the Boat Topics and Questions section, you'll see an option to start a new topic. Choose that, title it something like "Looking for Info About My Boat", then ask your questions. As far as whether or not you own a pocket cruiser, that's a somewhat subjective term rather than a defined classification of boat.

You say your boat has a small cabin. Okay, that'd make yours a a cuddy cabin cruiser, a walk-around cuddy, an express cruiser (like mine) or a cabin cruiser. Based on your description I'm pretty sure it's one of the first 2. Look for the make and model- mine's a Chris Craft (make) 240 EC (model). That'll help us identify it too.

As often as not, the boat's model name will clue you to its length- my 240 EC is 24 feet (and and a few inches) long.

Anyway, take some pics, look for a Hull Identification Number etched into the transom (first 3 characters are code for the manufacturer, last 2 digits are the year it was built).

Where do you live? Add that to your profile, too.

Redeyeblueeye, Don't worry about it. Start a new thread on the subject of your choice and ask any and all questions you have. You will get a much better response to your questions that way. I don't think anyone was offended, they were just letting you know a new thread is a better way to go.
Would love to see some photos of your boat. Plenty of them and from all angles. We all love photos to look at.
Once again welcome to iboats.

I must agree ... the replies were indeed intended to point me in the right direction. Thank you also JoLin.

Smoke or is it Kevin. Currently the vessel in a dock in the Caribbean...I don't have any pics with because I am not there now :( ... and its really old boat I am trying to restore...but will still post some pics later on Ken.
I will look for a Hull Identification Number etched into the transom.

As for make and model I will look for it too but not sure where to look...as you said my best bet will be in the sterndrive...
Thanks again all ...I will follow up my thread as smoke said...'boats with a Volvo V8.

Re: Pocket Cruisers

I'd go smaller than most of you on the definition of a "pocket crusier." To me, its a boat under 20' with outboard power and a very small cabin. If it has a head, it will be in the "V" of a V-Berth and will most likely be a porta-pottie.

I have also heard the term applied to small sailboats and the same length characteristics and minimal accomdations apply.

Keeping this all in the spirit of a good-natured debate... :)

I part company with you on this one, because the boat you describe doesn't really have cruising capabilities. IMO, a "cruiser" of any type must accommodate the basic needs of living aboard... going to the bathroom, cooking a meal, bathing, and sleeping. Those facilities might be small and basic, as they are in my boat, but my wife and I can be completely "self-contained", at least for a couple of days. A pocket cruiser is a little house on the water.

Nearly any length boat can be outfitted with a camp stove, porta-potti, sleeping bag and jug of water for bathing,. but that doesn't make it a cruiser.
