77 johnson sea horse 55hp over heating even after a new water pump impeller

I put in a new rubber impeller because i didn't see any water coming out of exhaust port. i never had any problems with engine overheating at all until i replace impeller. now it will run a minute then my warning horn goes off. now i have tons of water coming thru the exhaust ports, but it overheats?? please help!!!! thanks in advance

tomsboat,<br /><br />You may have plenty of water coming out of the exhaust relief, but that doesn't mean its getting to the powerhead.<br /><br />My guess is that you may have missed getting the copper water tube installed correctly when your re-stabbed the lower unit. It's a bit tricky.

tomsboat,<br /><br />Unfortunately, take it apart.<br /><br />If you look up into the midsection, with a flashlight, you can see the grommet that the tube needs to fit into. You can then orient the tube on the lower unit to get it close.<br /><br />Also, make sure the grommet is there!

Thanks i guees i'll try it in the morning. Where is the thermastat I didnt replace that or should i leave it???

I would wait. It's under the cylinder head cover.
