The generator seems to be working fine. We hook up the wires on the regulator outside the motor in the way that seems correct and the motor stalls. What I would like to know is, can I find a wiring diagram that will trace the wires from the ignition switch through the voltage regulator and cellenoid and then into the wiring harness going into the motor. This is on an older (1960) Seaswirl. Any information would be helpful. My father-in-law is an oldschool mechanic, so we are not completely in the dark, but it is getting harder to see in here.

Most of the service manuals have wiring diagrams. I have an OEM Johnson one for my 1958 Johnson 35 and it has the schematics.
I do believe IBOATS sells them.

since you dont want to wait too terribly long for your motor to charge that battery, this might help while that iboats manual is being shipped

Time to get a Seloc volume 1 not only will you get the diagrams, but also all the info on checking the generator and regulator.Did you polarise your setup?
If the engine stalls out you must definitely have a wrong connection because the magneto ignition supplies its own power.Having any outside power source such as a generator hooked into it spells trouble. This is magneto 2 cycle which a different story from 4 cycle car engine electronics.
