Oil Beeper Sounds at Low Speed

I have a used 50 HP '94 Johnson. When running at slow speeds, idle to modest trolling, the oil signal beeper sounds off, sometimes with varing intensity. When I speed up it shuts off. After searching through this forum I can find no one with this particular problem. The closest came when someone was advised to clean the filter in the oil injection system. How do you do that? What other trouble shooting tricks can I try? I can not find the oil sight glass either. There are several manuals listed on this site. Which one is the best?

Is your alarm rapid short tones or one short tone every 40 or so secs?Every 40 sec tone is for low oil in reservoir and the rapid short tones is no oil alarm from VRO.

Re: Oil Beeper Sounds at Low Speed

The signal for low oil has been disconnected. I failed to say I got the boat about a year ago, had been sitting up for a while. I had the carbs rebuilt, but left the old oil in resiorve. Have only run about two tanks full of gas, internal 12/15 gallon tank. I filled res. with new oil, pint from OMC, remainder from Pennziol, ran appx. 10 gallons of gas while at the beach as problem surfaced. I have drained oil and refilled with Pennziol Synthetic but have not put it back in the water yet.

I have this same problem. I have watched the oil lines very carefully while this is going on and can find no actual problems when this is happening... everything seems to work fine.

It may be my imagination, but I think when it's happening I can see more and larger air bubbles in the gas line than typical. At the moment, I'm watching it closely but am working under the theory that air bubbles are triggering some sensor somewhere that is saying "no oil" for a few seconds.

Not much help, I know. I'll follow this thread with interest.

Missed Again,Before you run the engine and run the risk of under oiling remove the oil inlet hose from vro pump at the nipple and reprime from the reservoir until you are certain there is no air present. Then until you can verify oil usage from oil reservoir ,run premix at 100/1.
