Hey guys,

I bought a 6hp johnson yesterday.
This is my second engine and also my second johnson. I think they are a great engine, with my first one I got all of the info off of this site, it was a 1.5 hp made in 1969 (1R69 was the code) but I'm back to find out about this one. I bought it for £105 sterling (€147.88 about $177.45) at a boat jumble in wales in a town that has 48-50 letters in its name not relavent but still interesting. anyway I'm from Dublin, Ireland and found I could only bring it on the   ferry if it was covered and black bin bags dunno why, but the codes are: CD -24D
and : C519543
I would like to know the mixture for oil to fuel and year etc. also anything interesting about them or if anyone has any stories or anything about them I would like to read them .Also the plate things above the prop that hold the hydrofoils (fins) has a bit broken off of it but I think it could b patched back up, anyone know how? would marine filler with a wire mesh inside do?

any info would be appreciated,

Thank you!

Ahoy, Wes.

You have a 1967 engine. Fuel mix is 24:1, since the CD series did not have needle bearings.

Good luck. :)

JB, are you sure about the 24:1 mix?
I have a '65 6 hp Johnson CD-22. Running on 50:1 the last ten years or so.
The model and bearing change was in 1965 I belive. The CD-21 was a 5.5 hp.

Wes has a 1967 model. I think all '67 Jonnyrudes can handle the 50:1 mix.

You are correct, Bear. I had forgotten that they added needles after 1964.

50:1 is correct.

Wes, I just fixed a broken piece of the antiventilation fin on my 71 '9.5. I just made up a template of the fins then cut two of them out of aluminum plate. Then I just drilled and pop riveted them on. I could send you a pic if you like?

Darrell

Re: My second Johnson

hey,

thanks for all your help guys!
could you please send me those photos wind knot? my E-mail is w_e_s_o@hotmail.com.
could this 6hp sea-horse be changed to be remote? because there is a little bar about 1/2 an inch that sticks out and when it is moved it moves the throttle. also could it be changed to an electric start? because there is a barrel inside for the pull start and on our mercury engine it looks alike but is electric start. also the fuel line on my old 1.5hp is broken (the one that goes into the tap not the sparkplug) I think it could be special because there is a cornerin the line and normal hose would be messy because it would have to go in a big circle, or is it possible to heat it and bend it for the corner?

Thanks alot!

P.S. sorry for all the big posts, I think of a lot to say when I'm writing in.
