How much damage?

I purchased a boat recently with a 95 88hp Evinrude. The compression was good at 120s, but I have one spark plug white and powdery. I'm having the carbs rebuild due to a lean condition on that one cylinder, no time to do it myself. My question is I don't know how long this condition went on, but boat has not been used more than a few times in last 2 years and owner says it was professionaly winterized, how much damage is done? The compression did test 120 on that cylinder like the other 3, but could the rings get weak because of the condition or do rings either work or break?

Minnoak,

It's probably OK. Which cylinder?

If its the top right (standing behind engine) that cyl. tends to run a little warmer. It's the last one to get water.

It is the top right. Is it typical for that spark plug to run white or should it be wet and oily like the others? Don't want to tinker with the carbs if I don't have to. The motor runs GREAT! idles good, trolls good, WOT good, just condition of that plug concerned me a litte. Hate to have someone mess with it and it doesn't run good later. I wish I had the time to do it myself.

Don't take it for granted! If that plug is white you have an air leak or a plugged jet. Eventually you'll toast that cylinder!
