New owner, I have a Evinrude 225-1999. I just noticed a small amount of oil running down the outside of the motor when stopped. How can I fix this? When I looked at the engine I found it compact so little concerned about removing parts to get access. Any suggestions? George

Re: oil leak

GNW.... That's a rather large and long motor George. Give us a bit more detail as to exactly where that oil is dripping down from (roughly), and onto.

Re: oil leak

Joe: Thanks for reply. A small amount of oil is running down the left side of outside cover of the shaft to the prop. When I removed the engine cover I could not see the source of the oil and did not want to take things apart with out knowing what I was looking for to fix. George

I'm guessing your intake silencer scavenging hose has come loose or the oil is simply running out of the silencer cover when the motor is tilted.Does the engine run good otherwise?

OB: The engine is performing fine but concerned when I take a trip off shore. How can I access the hose to fix? George

Re: oil leak

The air intake cover is just fastened with cap screws.Once the cover is removed it will expose the silecer box bolts that hold silencer to carburetor faces. The hose will be on the back side bottom of the silencer.Just insure that the hose didn't slip off of its nipple. Many two stroke engines accumulate residual two cycle oil in the intake silencer and for this reason have a hose drain of sorts that scavenges back through the crankcase.

ob: You were right on the money. We looked every where till we followed your suggestion. After we removed the silencer we found a hose that was just about wron through leaking just a little oil. It is repaired. Thanks George :)
