I have a 1973 Evinrude, 130 HP. When we bought it this summer it ran just fine but needed a new starter. We took it out several times then the starter quit working so we replaced it. It still wouldn't start because the solenoid was bad so we replaced that. Then it wouldn't turn over and we replaced the ignition switch. Now it still won't start - we have enough voltage to the solenoid for it to start. I'm stumped and so is everyone that I know - do you think its the wiring? or is it something else?

The starter will spin and start the boat if do things the hillbilly way and jump start it. But it won't spin on its own if we just turn the key.

Wires hooked up to the slenoid right? Or check the neutral safety switch. It sounds like your solenoid isn't getting the control power (or possibly a bad ground). Find out why and you'll fix it.

Its a 1973 135, right? Not a 90 something 130, right?

Anyway, if nothing happens from the key -- no starter spin, no choke, check the fuse in the harness. Its an in-line fuse located near the starter solenoid.

Good luck!
