Hiya, I have an Evinrude 40 with VRO, circa 1985.

I have just tried to start it in the driveway, on the hose, however I didn't realise that my mate had disconnected the fuel line!!So it ran out of fuel pretty quickly, stalled and then refused to restart. Unknown to me that the fuel was disconected, I cranked it over and over, before I realised. On reconnecting the fuel, it restarted, but kept stalling. I kept pumping the choke, and eventually it settled down to a good idle, but with a LOT of smoke!! The smoke is pluming out both the prop and the high level vent on the front of the motor. Theres so much it seems like its on fire, and continues to whisp out after I have turned off.

Is this excessive smoke just a result of the VRO flooding the motor with 2 stroke before I realised the fuel had been disconnected, and now its just burning off all that oil? To cure it, I intend to just 'run it through' - is this advisable?

Also, there is some oil dripping out just above the water intake (where the earmuffs go) - I have read this is just excess, and nothing to worry about.

By the way, it has recently been 'serviced' however I am not sure exactly what was replaced, but assume it was the standard seals and gaskets.

Any help gratefully recieved. I hope to use the boat in the morning (UK time ) so a prompt reply would be really appreciated!

I think you have it figured out.I would insure that the oil line is fully primed and just run it on the hose for a spell until the smoke cleared.
