Hi again.
In my Clymer manual in the "quick reference" chart, it says that all oil injected engines must use the Champion QL77JC4 spark plug.
But on another chart half way thru the book, it says that only for the 90 horse power engine, when oil injected, the QL77JC4 must be used.
(I may have it backwards, my manual is not with me here at work)

Does anyone have an "Official Johnson" manual out there?
What exactly does it say?

I'm confused why they would have a chart with the recommended plug being the QL78YC, and the alternate being the QL77JC4 if it is oil injected, when I would assume that every 1995 200 Ocean Runner comes from the factory with oil injection.

I also love how the Clymer manual says, "see thermostat inspection and cleaning in this chapter", and I can't find that subject anywhere in the book.

Where can I get the "REAL" manual?

thanks

The only accurate spark plug chart for your motor is the factory list in the annual parts and accessories catalogs. Products and specs change over the years and that is why you need accurate information on servicing your motor. Aftermarket manuals are not always accurate and are many times out of date. Since late 1995, the recommended plug for your motor is the QL78YC gapped at .030".

Thanks.

How about early 1995? Can you tell from the suffix letter?

My model number is J200TXEOC

Which stands for:
Johnson
200 horse
Trim & tilt electric start
25" shaft
1995
Model run or suffix "C"

What I meant to say was the factory changed the spec in late '95. The QL78YC is the plug for all looper V6's since 1994.

Re: 95' 200 Ocean Runner recommended plugs

Thanks Seahorse.

That is the definite kind of answer I was looking for.

I have the Johnson "factory" manuals on order.

I have a set of QL82YC that I am keeping in the boat just in case I foul the standard plugs when I'm 10 miles out to sea. My question is, what is the highest constant rpm I could run with the hotter plugs in it, without doing damage from detonation?

Re: 95' 200 Ocean Runner recommended plugs

I have read that here. Thanks.

But, the higher the number, the hotter the plug.
The big block loopers tend to have detonation problems, and the higher the rpm, the worse the detonation gets.

I was wondering if anyone has run the hotter plugs at higher rpms, and what the experts think is a safe max rpm for that plug used in a good condition engine with 89 octane fuel?
