70 HP Johnson overheating?

I have what I believe is a 1989 Johnson 70HP which has had chronic problems with what I believe is overheating. The engine runs fine for a certain time and then it stops and will only run up to a certain speed. I'd like to try to fix this problem but I don't know what to do. Any help would be appreciated.

Have they changed the water pump and t-stat ?<br />Is water coming out the pee hole ?

The water pump was changed last year and there is water coming out the pee hole. The thermostat has not been touched to my knowledge.
