Is there anything I can do to quiet the motor some, mine exhaust above water, not down through the prop?

By chance do you have a short shaft motor on a long shaft transom? - - Whare is the cavitation plate relative to the bottom of the hull??

Sounds like the motor is mounted way too high.

No its a long shaft motor, the plate is approx. 2 " below the bottom of the boat. I have 2 small 1/2" holes near the top of the motor, maybe 4" down from the bottom of the engine housing on the shaft, so its always out of the water, rather noisy compared to my dads 98 25hp that exhaust through the prop............ Those 2 holes have to be the exhaust cause it spits water and smoke out those 2 holes. Any ideas fellas?

your exhuast should come out right behind the prop there is a little fin which has the water intake and the exhuast in it the two holes on the leg are exhaust relief ports.
I have the same engine and it is loud too. chaulk it up to design I guess.
does it run good??
Check the foam inside the engine cover that makes a differance too.
I had to remove mine as it started to fall part and was getting sucked into the carb... very bad!!

Yep....what buttonhook said. Noisey little critters.

If ya' need new sound blankets, they are still available from Bomby. Precut and ready for installation.
