'96 115 Intruder - cuts out over 4000rpm

This weekend as I was running across the lake, trimmed about half way, over 4000rpm my boat just quit. It would start again OK, but did the same thing again. Then it started to make a rattling noise an run rough so I quickly hit the trailer. No warning lights went on, gauges OK. Any help. Thanks.
