Checked the reeds and fuel pump? Are the rpm's high with no speed or is she choking out?

With engine running on water.its impossible to adjust.turned off engine loosened nut and tried to adjust timing with light difference not found.I pulled flywheel, because the timer base didnt seem to be attached...

So youre saying the timer base doesnt move as you advance the throttle? What was the timing set at?

Its suppose to be at 28degrees.....
I feel my timing may not be advancing. It takes of fine but only travels about 10mph.It idles good, puffs every once and a while.but it revs strong....

rscott,

I am thinking that your engine winds up (rpm's) but just doesn't move the boat-right?

If so, try this. Put a mark on the prop hub and a corresponding mark on the prop outer housing. Run the boat and see if the marks are still lined up.

Re: Johnson 1983 115HP V-4

Does your timer base move when the throttle is advanced?

When you had the timing light hooked up, what was the timing set at?

What top rpms are you getting?

Re: Johnson 1983 115HP V-4

Dhadley the timer base is not moving enough because when i pulled the flywheel with timing adjusted all the way out it wasnt pointing toward the frt of the boat......it suposed to be at 28",but it never changed from being way out....At full throttle not in gear im getting around 4500 rpm.
