My '89 Johnson 175 HP has a warm up lever that I have never used (only had the boat for 2 months). I can usually get the thing started with 2 or 3 cranks and the thing just idles great (cold start). I was wondering if I should be using the warmup lever instead? I'm I doing harm by not using the lever? What advantages are there to using it. Thanks for your help.

Jason

jkurtz,

If it starts/runs without it, great!

If you do use it, keep the rpms down in nuetral. Usually, you should never have to lift it more than halfway.

Re: Warm -up Lever

When I got my first Evinrude, (used), with no manual, I didn't use the warmup lever for quite some time. I didn't even know what it was for until my mechanic told me. Not only that, I didn't know anything about the electric choke. It anazes me that I ever got the thing started. It certainly starts easier using the devices the factory provided. :D
Charles

Bottom line is, if it works and not broken, leave it like it is and enjoy it. PDS
