I have a 1978 140HP engine and I just got a new tachometer for it. The back has a switch with 4 cyl, 6 cyl, 8 cyl, and 12 pole

Would I set it to 12 pole for my boat.

Thank you for your advice,
Jeremy

I believe the 1978 Johnson 140 hp's are 4 cylinder engines. ...Bob in Calif...

Bob In Calif..... No offense or insult to your intellegence intended, just being informative here. It doesn't matter how many cylinders the OMC engines have. The OMC tachometers and their equivalent operate off of the charging system which emits six (6) pulses, hence the #6 setting.

But then again, what was said about what is stated on the back of that tach makes me wonder if it will function with that engine. If it actually states 6cyl, 4cyl, etc etc, I agree that it should probably be set on #4. I'm interested in knowing the outcome of the operation of that tach.

Im curious too about the brand of tach and if it works correctly, but please stick with one thread for the same question. It makes it very hard to help.

Perhaps you could pick one of the two threads and ask JB or one of the moderators to close the other.

I noticed they did put more insulation in the room but we still have that echo once in a while.......
