I have a 1977 25 hp evinrude eletric start, electric choke<br />it has a remote gear shift and throttle <br />it also hsa a remote key switch.<br />my question is what do the black , black with yellow stripe need to allow engine to start.<br />i think the black is ground,but im not sure if it is switched on grounded all the time <br />i think the other wire is 12 volts when you turn key to the on position . sorry about my typing and spelling!!!!! can anybody help me wire in a new ignition switch

Tom..... DO NOT apply 12 volts to either of those wires. They make up the kill circuit of the powerpack which enables or disables the ignition circuit.<br /><br />If you apply voltage to that black/yellow wire, you will destroy the powerpack (not a good idea).<br /><br />The powerpack has a black wire leading from it to ground. The powerpack also has a black/yellow wire leading from it that leads to the ignition switch and connects to a "M" (magneto) terminal of the switch. There is another "M" (magneto) terminal on the ignition switch whereas a black wire leads to ground.<br /><br />When the ignition switch is ON, the two "M" terminals ARE NOT connected which allows the powerpack to energize. When the ignition switch is OFF, the two "M" terminals ARE connected which effectively grounds the pack, killing the ignition, and stopping the engine.

thanks joe for the info i got the kill circuit working. i was having open circuit problems because of soderless connectors, so i decieded to rewire and soder all connections. it works great thanks for advice tom
