I have a 1959 5.5 hp Evinrude that seems to have lost some of it's power at full throttle. I've got good spark and compression in both cylinders and I cleaned the carb. It starts up after a couple of pulls and idles nicely but when I throttle up it runs rough and not as fast. Someone told me changing out the reeds might help. Would this be the right way to go or should I be checking for something else?

thanks

Hello.
The needle valves on your carburator may have gone a bit out of adjustment.Sometimes they shake loose and vibrate in the housing. You can also dump some carburator cleaner in with your next tank of fuel.See how that works and take it from there.
