Bought a 76 Johnson 70.. starts but dies at idle and stalls out midrange. Burned up most of the old gas and 6 gals of fresh. When I push through to full throttle it planes out fine. Compression- top: 125/125/125 middle: 120/120/120 bottom: 115/110/110. What next?
Thanks

Re: 70 Johnson idle /stalls

Unlike automobiles if the motor has been sitting up for more than a year the oil/gas mixture tends to gum up the carbs

Hi lotide and welcome to the forums...

Take a look at the gasket between the float bowls and upper carb body. If they are black, you are long overdue for a carb over haul.

Get a manual and carb kits. Also follow the instructions in the manual for sync and link...that is getting the spark and throttle advane in time.

Keep us posted.....Thanks.
