I have an Evirude 48 Spl with the gas assist tilt feature. The unit has failed. I cannot figure out how to remove the bottom pins holding the unit in. Also should I replace it with the same or go to an after market PT&T unit? Does anyone have a recomendation for same?
Thanks Greg

Hi Greg....if memory serves, the tilt pin goes all the way through. You will need to support the engine, in the up position, and drive the pin out. Should be a nut on each side of the pin. Same thing with the upper pin but only a keeper retainer holding the pin in.

For a couple more hundred dollars, personally, I would go with the TNT. More to gain from TNT if the engine is a remote start/steering set up. Just my opinion.

I am leaning toward the t/t on mine.
I heard that OMC had a t/t unit that would bolt right in, in place of the assist cylinder, but don't have any details on it.

Anyone know?

Hello
OMC makes a trim/tilt kit that will bolt in place.its about 800 dollars for all of it but it will work. for around 400 or so CMC or another has a bolt on unit. the unit bolts to the transom then the motor bolts to that. it depends on how much room you have. I dont like that gas system. we have a lot of trouble with it here. and its almost 500 dollars for the factory gas system that will fail again. for the money upgradeing to trim is the only way to go.good luck and post us what you did
