Hi!
I'm newbie from Hungary (Europe). My son bought a Johnson 4.5 SeaHorse, year 1980, model J5BACSS.
Motor run good 2-3 minutes, then stopped. After few minutes again, etc. etc.
I checked compression: first cylinder 80 psi, second cyl. cca.84 psi. It's enough???
Scond question: why stopped motor? What is failure?
I know: see the manual, but here,in Hungary no manual.
Thanks,
ferko

Ferko,

Is the motor overheating?? Can you hold a finger on the head of the motor for a few seconds before it gets too uncomfortable?? If the motor is overheating, replace the water pump impeller . If the motor is not overheating, I would then look at a fuel delivery problem. If you choke the motor as it dies, does it continue to run, if it does continue to run, look at the carb. If you are using a remote tank, try squeezing the primer bulb to see if the motor will continue to run. If it continues to run, look at the fuel pump and inspect the fuel lines for air leaks. If you have a built-in fuel tank, look at the filter screen in the tank. If these all check out ok, then look at the carb. A good carb cleaning and/or kit would be next. Your compression figures are respectable.
