I have finally taken my 115 HP motor out after redoing all the gauges and rewiring the entire boat. The tach wouldn't work at first and thanks to this forum I found all the testing know how to figure out the rectifier was probably bad. It was as now the tach goes. The original tach that was on there wasn't a Teleflex but the one I got was new and had a 4th terminal labeled Evinrude/Johnson. I hooked that up and did get a reaction and a reading at idle. How accurate it was is what this post is about.

I think it was set on 6 tonight but the RPM's went over 7000 when I knew they weren't that high. I quickly pulled it out of the dash and switched it to 12 as I think I just imitated what the factory tach had on it. Now the tach topped out at 4000 RPM's around 40 miles an hour. I think that is too low but I'm not really sure if that's what I want or not. Motor sounds fine and I can trim it up to get it up to 4200 but I just want to hear one of you guru's say what I should have. Since this tach has the Evinrude/Johnson terminal is it possible I don't need this for my particular motor? My Teleflex literature says tach should be set on 12.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks...

Gary
