I have a 1986 140hp evinrude. In two of the four carbs, the emmulsion tubes have started to disolve ,taking one of the carbs apart ,I was able to pull the tube out.I called my local parts counter and was told the tube does not come out and the part was not available. Not to my suprise I was told I have to buy two new carb bodies. Not being made of money ,It seems to me if the emmulsion tubes are able to be removed ,then they should be able to be replaced..I'm looking for a possible source for the for the parts. Thanks JTG

Re: Carb. troubles

JIG.... Back in the 1980s, that was a common problem and OMC did supply those nozzles to various dealerships. It was simply a matter of pressing the new nozzles into the carb body to the proper depth. Unfortunately they may now be unavailable.

I'll see what I can find out and get back to you. Perhaps I might even have carburetors that would be favorable in price to you. Hopefully a solution pops up to restore your carbs.

Re: Carb. troubles

Yes those could be replaced. As Joe mentioned there were only a handful of places that could get them. There were several ones and they had to be matched to the carb body but they did just pop in place. Monty Racing might have some, it may be worth a call to Gordon at 772-336-9508.

A used set would be an alternative too. Pro Marine (800-621-7761) sells a new set at a great price. These are the later model V6 carbs with adjustable low speed air screw. All you need is the top 2 and would have the bottom carbs for spares.

Good luck!

Re: Carb. troubles

JIG.... I've searched through the service bulletins that I've saved through the years but unfortunately there's no mention of those H/S venturi tubes.

Pertaining to the carburetor body, look on the side of the upper body. There is a number there. What is it?

The carburetors that I have left bear the numbers on the side of: 398743 and 393574. I didn't check to see exactly what they are pertaining to horsepower, however the 398743 appears to be for the V/4 or V/6 models whereas the 393574 appears to be for the V/8.

Get back to us with your carb body numbers.

Re: Carb. troubles

Thanks for the help guys, but after looking at the problem a little closer I desided to go ahead and make the parts out of delrin.so tonight after a little measuring time, I made the first of two in about an hour,# two in about 20 mins. The tube is .252 OD and has a tapered ID.luck for me, I just had the right tapered ream. The eight holes in bowl end of the tube are a drill size #55.As soon as I get a chance to fire this thing ,my plan is to watch the cylinder temps and the plugs very close! I'll let you know as soon as I can.Thank for the help and I'll keep the #'s just in case.

Re: Carb. troubles

There wasn't a service bulletin about the tubes, but a mention in the service schools and update clinics. Your dealer could call the tech service dept. and they would send out what was needed.

Let us know how the "home-brew" emulsion tubes work out, and if gasoline over a period of time affects them.
