Evinrude 48 SPL won't idle

My '87 Evinrude 48 HP has a very rough idle and wants to die. After years of storage I had a shop clean the carbs, replace the spark plugs and adjust the engine. Bought new gas tank, new gas line, new gas and 50:1 oil.<br /><br />Put the puppy in the water, and had trouble at idle. Running above idle was much better, but the engine RPM would jump up and down at random intervals.<br /><br />WOT, it ran the best. Back at the boat ramp, to haul out, the engine would not restart.<br /><br />TIA,<br />Gary

I am no expert but my rude did the same thing and it turned out to be low compression in 1 cylinder.Hope youre luck is better than mine.Charlie
