Folks I need some help here. Have a 1994 225 oceanrunner. Originally lost spark on 3 cylinders. Suspected power pack failing so I changed it out. Still have no spark on #5 cylinder. Tried another power pack with the same results. Also tried replacing timer base - no change. Charging system is good, batteries are fully charged, plugs have zero hours, swapped coils port to starboard - still no spark on #5. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Hello
is this at cranking speed with all plugs removed and spark gap set at 7/16ths? I have seen this problem at cranking speed on some engines. if the coil primary voltage is over 150 while running and the coil secondary is at least 5 kv while running I would not worry much with it. you may check the flywheel magnets for loose or cracked magnets. good luck and keep posting

Yes. This condition is at cranking speed with all teh plugs removed. Since changing teh bad power pack, I have not put the boat back in the water becasue i could not figure out what was wrong. I took it back to my mechanic and he has been stumped as to what else could be wrong.

Are you suggesting that if the coils are good, and they seem to be, and I have enough voltage, then at speed I might fire on all six cylinders? Aside from an uneven idle with this condition are you aware of any downside to running the engine as is?

Thanks.

Did you change the photo sensor too?

rodbolt, I forgot to mention that I left all the plug gaps at .035. This engine is bypassing the VRO.

Angus, I am not familiar with the photo sensor. So, it has not been changed.

This engine does not have the optic timing sensor. It has Quick Start. Ignition system checked with plugs in. Are you doing step 5 in manual sensor coil test for, no spark one cylinder? Remember on Quick Start cold engine spark test, you are only checking the start sensors. If the timer and pack is good, check all connection pins. If you orignal lost spark on the 3 stb cylinders, shift switch needs to be checked.
