Re: What's wrong? - 1990 Johnson 120
best thing to use is an impact wrench, believe me thats easy.
the problem is getting flywheel off.
not really a problem unless you had an idiot like the one who sold me my motor and used loctite high strength red on the flywheel nut.
from there it seeped into the taper, or he put it there.
i used a harmonic balancer puller to pull off.
actually i destroyed the 1st one.
-
the center nut is 1-7/16 in. i got the socket (great neck) from autozone. for less than $10- it was just rite to fit for the ID of flywheel. you have to look at the sockets to get the thinnest wall.
i did get a holding tool, from K/D tools(actually a flywheel turner) but it did the job for less than $20.
-
when i put it back on, i used an old damaged head from the spare block i have with a piece of 2X4 to
hold it in place.
then i put resurfaced heads on.
-
book says to retorque nut to 140 to 150ft lbs.
